Traditional Burmese Massage (also known as Myanmar Massage or Burmese Touch) is heavily influenced by Indian, Thai, Chinese and Tibetan massage styles and ideas as well as is designed for general well-being. Traditional Burmese massage sessions do not use oils lotions, creams or pastes. However, it's important to know that this can differ based on the place where the massage being given, and how the massage is carried out. The typical Burmese massage treatment is gentle, short focused and targeted towards relaxation. In western countries like the US, Japan, Canada, Australia and New Zealand We've learned to adapt the ancient techniques of Myrtle and chamomile massage to the culture and needs of the country in which we live. The massage is not as than a sacred activity in the eastern regions like Myanmar. Over many years, I've experienced consistent experiences with Thai massage, Burmese massage, and any other massage. It was because of the group of Far East students who are descendants of "Druk Yai", a traditional Thai massage expert. This tradition is not nearly as diverse as the different types of massage that are practiced across Thailand. However, it does offer its own unique healing principles and advantages.

I believe this is because of the large number of messages (masseurs) who are hired to provide massage services. A lot of Thai massage spas continue to use oil-based treatments as they are believed to be "luxurious".

Additionally, many massage spas located in northern Thailand have taken on the idea of using aroma therapy and "Oriental herbal medicine." These are also used across the United States, Canada and Europe. However, a lot of massaging spas in Thailand I've been to are not practicing these traditional healing art. I believe that this is due to the fact that these kinds of methods do not align to the policies of the larger, more conservatively managed massage spas located in northern Thailand.

My experience of traditional Burmese massage revealed a different approach to massage than the westerners I had been studying. The style, which I would classify as "Myanma" or "Myrobalan," involves gentle pressure applied to specific Acupoints on the body. The method is primarily kneading. This technique makes use of lengthy strokes, which aren't often used in Thai massage, in which the practitioner uses only one hand. After the massage my skin was relaxed and I could sleep peacefully.

My research also revealed that the classic Burmese massage is usually accompanied by the ingestion of a particular herbal concoction. Mistletoe, Brahmi, and Lavan are some of the most common ingredients. Although the herbs can vary in different locations but the main goal is to give you a general sense of well being. My research revealed that massage therapists in northern Thailand use Ostrich feathers, ginseng and traditional Burmese techniques to help clients who suffer from arthritis-related muscle spasms.

The benefits of a complete body massage are well known. The relaxing effects it provides on my body and my mind were apparent the second I had received it. Although the Thais would not call these techniques for full body massage for me but I can confirm that upon receiving them, I felt more energetic and alert. This feeling of wellbeing spread to my entire body. I was able to accomplish my daily chores without stress or anxiety due to the simple techniques that my Myanmar massage therapist taught.
